The paper, Evaluation in English Earnings Conference Calls: a Corpus-Assisted Contrastive Study, written by Prof. Pang Jixian and Dr. Chen Fang, was published in the “Text and Talk” [38(4): 411-433], an International Journal listed in SSCI.
Using the corpus analysis software Wmatrix, this paper makes a contrastive analysis of the application characteristics of evaluation words in English earnings conference calls between Chinese companies and multinational corporations through quantitative and qualitative research methods. Research indicates that the financial reports, as a kind of reporting and marketing hybrid genre, have the same distribution characteristics in evaluation words of Chinese and foreign companies. Although the English users of Chinese companies are aware of the genre characteristics of financial reports, they are influenced by Chinese Confucian culture, and the evaluation words have textual functions with different semantic features.
